Enamelled pewter pocket watch created by time served craftsmen. Presented in a matching box. In 832AD the Pictish army were marching to battle against a Northumbrian foe. The night before the two sides met the Pictish King Angus MacFergus was visited by a vision of Saint Andrew. The next day during the course of the battle a saltire (x- shaped cross much like the one that Saint Andrew was crucified upon) appeared in the sky spurring the Picts on to victory. The white cross of the saltire on the brilliant blue represent that cross in the sky. |
